About Us

Welcome to the website of the Chase Choral Society! We are a welcoming group, open to all ages and abilities, and we gather every Wednesday evening at Bethany Baptist Church in Chadsmoor, beginning at 7:20 - 7:30 pm.

During our meetings, we sing together and enjoy sharing music. Our practices typically conclude around 9:30 pm, with a tea or coffee break of 10-15 minutes in the middle. Over the weeks and months, we rehearse and learn familiar and new pieces, developing a repertoire of songs that we then select from for our concerts.

Our performances are diverse and cater to a broad range of audiences. In addition to raising funds for our choir, we also support local charities and causes. Our song choices vary from traditional choir pieces to folk songs, medleys from musicals, pop songs, and more. We regularly introduce new pieces to our repertoire and work together to meet these new challenges. We also love to collaborate with other choirs, schools, and bands for concerts.

At each Annual General Meeting, a committee is elected to represent the members, and it is expected that all members will adhere to and act in accordance with the choir’s Constitution.

Most importantly, we warmly welcome anyone who would like to join our community choir. Why not give us a try?

Our history

Chase Choral Mixed Voice Choir was formed in 1981 as a result of the amalgamation of the Joseph Lucas Male Voice Choir, conducted by Derek Bailey, and the Cannock Ladies’ Choir. Derek became the conductor of the new choir, and his wife Sheila, along with Ray Smith and Walter and Joan Lane, were among the founder members. Ray and Joan have remained lifelong honorary members of the choir and continue to provide unwavering support.

Other members have also been active supporters of the choir over the years and have played a vital role in the choir’s development. In the 1980s, the choir established strong links with the German Datteln Haffenchor, and the two choirs arranged successful exchange visits, with a highlight being Chase Choral’s performance at Datteln Cathedral to an appreciative audience. Additionally, Chase Choral has performed with and been hosts to the Llandullas Male Voice Choir on numerous occasions.

Despite its rich history, the choir remains focused on meeting new challenges and continuing to evolve. Throughout its existence, Chase Choral has kept the love of singing at the very heart of everything it does.
